Before you begin reading the Law of Success lessons you should know something of the history of the course. You should know exactly what the course promises to those who follow it until they have assimilated the laws and principles upon which it is based. You should know its limitations as well as its possibilities as an aid in your fight for a place in the world.
Leadership in the Twenty-first century means leading under intense conditions; today’s markets and people are different than their counterparts of 20 years ago. Managers and employees are faced with new challenges, have other goals and interests, live in another environment, and they define themselves and their work differently than the generation before them did. Before getting to the topic of leading, I would first like to briefly outline the most important basic social and economic conditions. This can of course be nothing more than a general outline, as, beyond its increasing complexity and acceleration, the Twenty-first century is especially characterized by one trend: change.
The knowledge base is growing (in fact exponentially), information technology does operate faster and requires less and less space, the economy is global and interdependent. Short is not the only one to attest to these notions. In fact, one widely referenced source which highlights these ideas as fact is Thomas Freidman’s (2005) The World is Flat. Pink stated likewise in his 2008 address to the NASSP convention audience: technology and off-shore outsourcing will increasingly continue to replace routine work where there are clear black and white answers and logical sequentially reached solutions. development and explosive sales of software products such as those to complete one’s taxes or basic legal documents.
